ART & DESIGN
Anja Albosta ~ Artist
“Symbolic Expressionism”. Real world events, book and news clips collaged, painted around in water-soluble oil, gold and silver leaf.
My art as my life, revolves around the awareness of global interconnectedness.
The world wide web of roots that interlink our forests, oceans and atmosphere. From stardust to the salt in the sea, we are all made of the same elements. Every painting is an attempt to shift viewers closer to these universal truths.
Currently I am creating a series called “Take Your Broken Heart and Make Art” . Addressing the corruption within the Republican party and the inability of the Democratic party in the US.
In 2024 I worked on a series called “Earthrise” after the 1968 photo from the Apollo 8 Mission. A homage to our planet. A pale blue dot in the distance and simultaneously a close up of our home.
My past series are interlinked. The black madonna of medieval Europe, Stardust, Time, Greta Thunberg’s XR movement, climate change, geopolitics, the me too movement and social-ecological justice. Local landscapes in oil and watercolor.
I was raised between two continents. Born in Munich to a German, architect father who was sixteen when WW II ended and a fifth generation Californian. I completed my drafting degree at the age of eighteen and subsequently a degree in interior design. After a brief stint modeling and working at trade fairs I settled into working within my profession.
This afforded travel. Croatia and Greece, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Egypt, Portugal, Canada, France, Austria, Spain, Malaysia, Italy and Thailand.
Art and traveling, the inner and outer journey of discovery.
In 1998 I moved full time to California. In 1999 in Yosemite National Park I met my husband. The Sierra Nevada, inspired me to go rock climbing and hiking.
In 2018 we left our home in the Yosemite area due to drought and relocated to the central Oregon coast.
Over the last 30 years my art has been exhibited in the areas I have called home. Currently at Peephole Gallery in Yachats and Ocean Beaches Glassblowing Gallery in Seal Rock.
As of 2025 I am a member of the Oregon Coast Counsel for the Arts in Newport.
In 2024/25 my art is being shown in Cape Town, South Africa as part of the art exhibit “Nothing Comes Without Its World’.
In 2023 and 2024 my art has been included in the prestigious Oregon State University’s Art About Agriculture exhibit.
My paintings have been shown in Switzerland, Basel at the Alliance Insurance.
In the Yosemite area by Williams Gallery and Timberline Gallery in Oakhurst, and Sierra Artist Gallery in Mariposa, California.
